| Work With Handicapped Children in China _____April 20th-May 6th_______ A team of special education teachers and therapists is going to the JianHua Foundation in Tianjin, China (a city of 10 million people) where they will provide assistance and training for disabled students and their caregivers. The school for disabled children is run in a Christian atmosphere by Ann Churchwell from the United States. The primary objective of our team is to assist and train the local teachers so they can improve their skills for training these disabled children and young photos show some of the class work that is done The team will be led by Sally Smith who has been working with this foundation for many years The team needs people who have professional experience in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, early childhood education especially as it relates to the disabled, special education teachers who have worked with autistic, hearing impaired, visually therapies. Also there will be opportunities to visit other programs and facilities serving the needs of disabled children and adults in the area. Thus you can learn what is being done in other facilities to train the disabled in China which may lead to other opportunities for using your skills in other foreign countries. The trip involves flying into Beijing and then taking about a two hour train ride south to Tianjin. Opportunities will be provided to visit some of the tourist attraction in this part of the country. ![]() |
Costs for the trip are (1) airfare which
is about $700 from San Francisco, (2)
lodging
which is determined by the needs and
desires
of the participant which is $10 a day
for
a shared dorm
room or $25 per day for a simple but
acceptable
hotel room, (3) food and transportation
which
are $5-10 per day, and (4) sight seeing
in
the Beijing area which will be about
$200
including a guide, hotel, and translator
if you desire to participate in that
activity
(if you have never been there before,
I would
highly recommend it since the tourist
attractions
around that area are tremendous). Also
you
are welcome to extend your stay if
desired
and take as much time as you wish to
see
