Assist in Building the KAKO Retreat Center In Far Western Alaska
May 22th - June 11th

Once again SERVE will send a team to the KAKO Retreat Center in far western Alaska (400 miles west of Anchorage) to assist in the growing ministry there. KAKO is a non denomination organization that provides Christ centered retreats, workshops, seminars and counseling to encourage and help the Eskimos and Indians living in the remote villages in that part of the state. This is much needed ministry in that the Lord is not present in the lives of most of the natives in that area as evidenced by a large variety of issues such as a high rate of teenage suicide. KAKO is a small complex of buildings as shown in the picture. This facility has been slowly growing enabling a growing ministry to the natives. This ministry is expanding in that programs are underway training native leaders to plant churches in their villages and plans are being made for teaching the natives some vocational skill to improve their standard of living.

Only access to the retreat center is via airplane or snow mobile. The natives are flown in from the villages for a variety of events where they are presented the gospel in a friendly Christian environment. The KAKO complex is slowly growing enabling increased ministry. This is a slow process due to the severe weather greatly limiting the building season. SERVE has supported growth of this complex for several years by sending numerous teams there to help in various aspects of their programs (last year's 16 member team is shown). There is a continuing need for help in construction, and maintenance around the lodge and cabin areas, and help in the lodge kitchen. The team will be led by E. Arnold Reinikka who has been there several times.

The missionaries in KAKO are doing a super job in very harsh environments of bringing the Gospel to our native Americans who are desperate need of the Lord in their lives. Please support them as much as possible. The cost will be the price of airfare from your home to Anchorage, about $325-$350 for roundtrip airfare from Anchorage to KAKO which will be arranged locally, and $10 a day for room and board.
