Dear SERVE Family,
Thank you ahead of time for inviting me into your homes or office to share for a few minutes about SERVE - Sending Experienced Retired Volunteers Everywhere.
Just last week I received a letter from John Taylor, President of Literacy Evangelism International in Tulsa, Oklahoma, accepting the invitation of our Executive Committee to be part of our Reference Board. John writes:
"You play an important role in God's kingdom work. We so need the expertise, experience and maturity that retired people can bring to the mission enterprise. We have a retired couple working with us who came to us through SERVE... (they) came for a one year assignment with us. Now, nine years later, they are still going strong —we are grateful to SERVE for steering them our way! Keep up the great work!"
This is just one of numerous letters that cross my desk from folks who are thankful for the work and ministry of SERVE. Praise the Lord! You may never get to pound a nail into the structure of a new church school building in Kenya, teach ESL (English as a second language) in China or give technical assistance to a Christian radio station broadcasting the Gospel into North Africa - but you can still be a valued part of the great work SERVE'S people are doing everyday through your regular giving to SERVE.
Right now, as we approach this season of thanksgiving, we are praying that you'll feel the Lord's hand directing you to send your best gift to SERVE right now. What is your best gift? For some people it is five dollars; for others, it is $5,000 dollars.
